此句是一个it 用作形式主语的句子,动词不定式to have survived for a long time是真正的主语。该句型结构是:It + be + adj. + 动词不定式。
例如:

其具体形式还有两种:
(1)It + be + adj. + for sb.+ 动词不定式

amaze
作动词,意为“ 使惊奇”,常用于 be amazed at/by (对……大为惊奇)和to one?s amazement (使某人大为惊奇的是)的结构。amazed 作形容词,意为“ 感到惊奇的”; amazing 作形容词,意为“令人吃惊的”; an amazing achievement/discovery惊人的成就/发现amazement作名词,意为“惊奇”; amazingly作副词,意为“令人惊奇的是”。
例如:
I was amazed at his conduct.我对他的行为感到惊讶。
He stood in amazement at the sight.他看到那种景象, 惊愕得呆呆地站在那里。
难点深究
注意amaze, astonish, surprise的区别:都含有“使……惊异” 的意思,而且它们都是一般以事物或他人作主语,以本人作宾语; 以本人作主语时用被动形式。
amaze强调“使惊异,困惑”,其间还有“惊叹,佩服”的意思,是意义很强的词;
astonish表示“使人大吃一惊”,“几乎无法使人相信”,但没有“惊叹”的意思;
surprise语气较上述两词弱,只表示“出乎意外地惊异”。
例如:
We were amazed at the ingenuity with which they solved their difficulties.他们在解决困难中所表现的智慧使我们惊叹。
I was astonished at his rudeness.他的粗野使我大吃一惊。
We were surprised at finding the house empty.我们惊讶地发现房子是空的。

作及物动词,意为“选择, 挑选”。

难点深究
注意choose, select,pick和prefer的区别。都含“挑选”、“ 选择”的意思。
choose 系常用词, 指“一般的选择”, 侧重“凭个人意志或判断进行选择”;
select 强调“在广泛的范围内精选、淘汰”, 侧重“以客观为标准进行选择”;
pick 强调“从个人角度在众多中进行挑选”, 有时含有“任意选择”的意思;prefer指“偏爱”、“更喜欢”, 有时“只表示自己的看法, 不一定加以选择”。
例如:
Leave it to you to choose between the two methods.任你在这两种方法中作出抉择。
