今天我们要介绍的几个习惯用语都包含同样的意思。那就是：一个人有足够的钱让他过舒适的生活，享受种种乐趣。
1. riding the gravy train 获得不费力而赚大钱的职位(或机会)，轻易地赚大钱
Riding the train就是乘火车，那么，gravy在这里又是什么意思呢?Gravy这个词的原意是肉汁，也就是煮肉时锅里的肉汤。但是在这个习惯用语里，gravy就不是具体的肉汤了，而是指在劳动所得，或者是实际需要以外还有很多财富。要是你ride the gravy train, 那就是说你没有花多大代价，或者根本就没有付出劳动而得到很多钱财。
下面一个例子说的是美国西部某个州的一个家庭。这个家庭拥有一个小农场，可是那里的土地并不适合种庄稼。但是后来他们在沙土底下发现了石油。这可是他们连做梦都没有想到的。
例句-1：Yes sir! Those oil wells are still pumping oil and bringing in so much money that thewhole family is still riding the gravy train - they have more to spend than they'll ever need untilthe wells run dry.

2. fat city 兴旺;生活优裕
Fat在中文里就是胖，city就是城市。但是，fat city，作为一个习惯用语，和这两个单词的原意没有直接的关系。要是说：You are in fat city，那就是说你有足够的钱让你生活得非常舒适，在经济方面没有任何担忧。我们来举一个例子。
这是一个人在说他的朋友Jennie。Jennie是一个年轻的女子，她在一个广告公司做得非常成功。
例句-2：Jennie started work in our company as a junior administrative assistant. But in the last 12 years she's done so well she's now vice president. If you see the house she owns and the carshe drives you can tell she's in fat city, but she's worked hard for it.

3. life of Riley 安逸的生活，无忧无虑的日子
Riley是爱尔兰人用的名字，在美国很普遍。谁也不知道Riley到底是个什么人。可是我们知道一首歌里有Riley这个名字。这首歌讲的是一个神秘的爱尔兰人，他突然，出乎意料之外地变得非常富有。
下面我们来举个例子。说话的人告诉我们，一个名字叫Joe的人买了一个新建立的公司的股票。这个公司规模很小，但是在电脑还很新奇的时候，它就开始设计电脑软件。Joe由于买了这个公司的股票而赚了很多钱。
例句-3：In a few years the value of the stock soared and Joe sold out with enough to retire on. Now he leads the life of Riley - he's always off to Paris or Hong Kong, stays in the best hotels, eats in the best places and samples all the pleasures of life.
