Women make better drivers than men for many reasons. Why is that? If you ask me, I’d like to say, men know that women are better drivers but do not have the courage to admit the truth—women are queens of the road.

Unlike men, women stop for directions when they have no idea as to where they are going. We don’t drive around for hours pointlessly wasting a tank of gas only to find ourselves heading in the wrong dire ction. Have you ever been in a car with a man who is lost? He tells you to shut up when you begin to open your mouth. And every five minutes or so he takes a turn going forty-five miles per hour only to find out he’s made another wrong turn.

Speeding is what men do best on the road. There is a reason why men get more speeding tickets than women. Not because we trick to get out of tickets but only because we don’t get pulled over as frequently. We don’t speed. We have more intelligence than senselessly to put our own lives as well as the lives of others in danger.

My largest issue with male drivers is how a majority of them drive with one hand on the wheel and the other hand doing only God knows what. The seat is backed as far as possible, and they’re totally lost into loud music beyond a necessary level. You don’t ever see women driving like that.

I feel that the above evidence more than proves my points that women are not only better drivers but also safer drive rs than men. We women rule the road. Oh, and men, if you want to continue criticizing (批评) women for being bad drivers, bring it on.

  24. If a woman driver feels lost, she will __________.

A.stop the car and ask people for help B. take the wrong turns at a high speed

  C. tell the man next to her to shut up D. drive aimlessly for hours without stopping

  25. According to Paragraph 4, men drivers __________ worries the writer most.

A.making jokes about women B. not paying full attention

  C. not stopping for directions D. getting more speeding tickets

  26. Which of the following shows the structure of the passage?

  A B C D

If you could have one superpower, what would it be?

Dreaming about whether you would want to read minds, see through walls, or have superhuman strength may sound silly, but it actually gets to the heart of what really matters in your life.

Every day in our work, we are inspired by the people we meet doing extraordinary things to improve the world.

They have a different kind of superpower that all of us possess: the power to make a difference in the lives of others.

We’re not saying that everyone needs to contribute their lives to the poor. Your lives are busy enough doing homework, playing sports, making friends, seeking after your dreams. But we do think that you can live a more powerful life when you devote some of your time and energy to something much larger than yourself. Find an issue you are interested in and learn more. Volunteer or, if yo u can, contribute a little money to a cause. Whatever you do, don’t be a bystander. Get involved. You may have the opportunity to make your biggest difference when you’re older. But why not start now?

Our own ex perience working together on health, development, and energy the last twenty years has been one of the most rewarding parts of our lives. It has changed who we are and continues to fuel our optimism about how much the lives of the poorest people will improve in the years ahead.

  27. What does the underlined part in Paragraph 2 refer to?

  A. Your life style. B. Your life value. C. Your trouble in life. D.Your life experience.

  28. Why does the author say they are inspired every day?

  A. They possess different kinds of superpowers.

  B. They have got the power to change the world.

  C. Some people around them are making the world better.

  D. There are many powerful people in their life and work.

  29. What does the author stress in Paragraph 5?

  A. Trying your best to help the poor.

  B. Rising above self and acting to help others.

C.Working hard to get a bigger opportunity.

  D. Learning more and contributing more to a cause.

  30. What can be inferred from the last paragraph?

  A. Much more progress will be made in the near future.

  B. The work on health is the most valuable experience.

  C. The author believes the lives of the poorest will get better.

  D. People’s efforts have been materially rewarded.

  D

There are two types of people in the world. Although they have equal degree of health and wealth and other comforts of life, one becomes happy and the other becomes unhappy. This arises from the different ways in which they consider things, persons, events and the resulting effects upon their minds.

People who are to be happy fix their attention on the convenience of things: the pleasant parts of conversation, the well prepared dishes, the goodness of the wine and the fine weather. They enjoy all the cheerful things. Those who are to be unhappy think and speak only of the opposite things. Therefore, they are continually dissatisfied. By their remarks, they sour the pleasure of society, offend (hurt) many people, and make themselves disagreeable everywhere. If this turn of mind was founded in nature, such unhappy persons would be the more to be pitied. The intention of criticizing(批评) and being disliked is perhaps taken up by imitation(模仿). It grows into a habit, unknown to its possessors. The habit may be strong, but it may be cured when those who have it realize its bad effects on their interests and tastes. I hope this little warning may be of service to them, and help them change this habit.

Although in fact it i s chiefly an act of the imagination, it has serious results in life since it brings on deep sorrow and bad luck. Those people offend many others; nobody loves them, and no one treats them with more than the most common politeness and respect. This frequently puts them in bad temper and draws them into arguments. If they aim at getting some advantages in social position or fortune, nobody wishes them success. Nor will anyone start a step or speak a word to favor their ho pes. If they bring on themselves p ublic objections, no one will defend or excuse them, and many will join to criticize their wrongdoings. These should change this bad habit and be pleased with what is pleasing, without worrying needlessly about themselves and others. If they do not, it will be good for others to avoid any contact(接触) with them. Otherwise, it can be disagreeable and sometimes very inconvenient, especially when one becomes mixed up in their quarrels.

  31. People who are unhappy _______.

  A. always consider things differently from others

  B. usually are affected by the results of certain things

C.always discover the unpleasant side of certain things

  D. usually misunderstand what others think or say

  32. The phrase “sour the pleasure of society” most nearly means “_______”.

  A. have a good taste with social life B.enjoy the pleasure of life

  C. tend to please others openly D.make others unhappy

  33. We can conclude from the passage that _______.

  A. we should pity all such unhappy people B. such unhappy people are dangerous to social life

  C. people can get rid of the habit of unhappiness D. unhappy people can not understand happy persons

  34. If such unhappy persons insist on keeping the habit, the author suggests that people should _______.

  A. persuade them to recognize the bad effects B. show no respect and politeness to them

  C. prevent any communication with them D. quarrel with them until they realize the mistakes

  35. In this passage, the writer mainly _______.

  A. describes two types of people

  B. laughs at the unhappy peoplex_k_b_1

  C. tells people how to be happy in life

  D. suggests the unhappy people get rid of the habits of unhappiness

  Dear Editors,

With the approach of Senior 3 studies, students who have almost finished the first term of Senior 2 are under increasingly great pressure, which has affected some students’ life. This prevents them sleeping well and causes problems with their health. In order to improve the condition, I’d like to offer some advice.

First and foremost, combine work with rest. Keep in mind that all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy. Furthermore, it is important to keep a healthy and balanced diet. Staying away from junk food and eating healthy food like vegetables and fish will benefit you. In addition, go outdoors and take regular exercise, for physical exercise is an effective way to get rid of pressure. Last but not least, good health means being both physically and mentally healthy. Keeping an optimistic state of mind will contribute to a good physical state.

  Yours sincerely,

  Li Hua
