In recent yearsChinese animation films and series are trying to break new ground. Yet compared to foreign counterparts, Chinese animation still has a long way to go. Here are four new popular series made in China.

  Lingjian Mountain

Animation series Lingjian Mountain was adapted from an online Chinese novel of the same name. The series tell the story of a boy named Wang Lu and his adventures on his way to be a powerful prince. Bearing a strong resemblance to Japanese animation, the series was adapted by two companies from China and Japan and was also broadcast in both countries. The animation series got 7.1 points out of 10 on Douban, one of China's most popular movie review sites.

  Year Hare Affair

The series was adapted from namesake comic series by cartoonist Lin Chao. The author tells the contemporary Chinese history through a group of cute rabbits in uniforms who symbolize the People's Liberation Army, and images of other animals. Sometimes, these animals would talk with a dialect that sounds funnier than simply using Mandarin. The series got 8.5 points out of 10 on Douban.

  Little Monk Yichan

This is another touching series about a seven-year old monk Yichan, and his master Adou's daily lives. Premiered in 2016, the series had its episode 35 broadcast recently. Each episode focuses on a certain topic, including family, romance and friendship. Despite telling stories from the perspective of a child, the series targets adults and aims to provide some "chicken soup" to let audiences learn to be tolerant and give more love to others. The animation got 9.5 points out of 10 on Douban.

  Hua Jiang Hu

Premiered in 2014, the series has had four seasons. The story is based on Chinese history during the Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms (907-960), when there were continuous wars and fights among many small kingdoms. The series got an average of 7.9 points out of 10 on Douban. To those who fancy historical stories, the animation provides another way to learn Chinese history. Yet the series doesn't pay too much attention to historical details.

  C. Hua Jiang Hu. D. Year Hare Affair.

  22. What does the underlined word “ resemblance” probably mean?

As more and more animal species began to disappear from Kandal province, the Cambodian man Suy Senglim grew worried. So he created a photo project hoping to bring more attention to the loss of natural habitat in Cambodia. He records the common name of each creature, its scientific name and identifying qualities, whether or not the species is endangered and hopes to educate Cambodians about the importance of wildlife protection.

“The biggest issue is damage to habitat and hunting. Besides that, it is due to demand from the rich who desire wild meat and who consider wild meat chemical-free,” he said.

“Hunting is at the root of Cambodian culture,” he said. But he notes that centuries ago, there were more animals and fewer people. Educating Cambodians about the need for saving natural resources is very important to Suy Senglim.

Chhit Sam Ath is executive director of the World Wildlife Fund, or WWF office in Cambodia. He said land sales and development are partly responsible for a sharp drop in the number of trees. It is estimated that protected areas within forests have disappeared at the same rate as forests in other parts of the country. Between 2001 and 2014, the yearly rate of forest loss in Cambodia was the highest in the world, the group said. The rate increased 14.4 percent during that period. Flora and Fauna International noted almost 60 percent of the country was forested in 2009. But it fell to 48 percent by 2014.

Suy Senglim is now working on a book on 100 bird species from among the 400 species he has photographed. He hopes to publish the book in early 2018. He says he looks forward to teaching in high schools and colleges to influence a new generation of nature-lovers.

  24. How does Suy Senglim feel about the wildlife in Cambodia?

  A. Disappointed. B. Optimistic. C. Concerned. D. Annoyed.

  25. What did Suy Senglim do?

  A. He has taken pictures of about 100 bird species in all.

  B. He made a careful investigation of the wildlife in Cambodia.

  C. He is now working in colleges to educate young people.

  D. He works at the WWF office to help protect wildlife.

  26. What is true about Cambodia?

  A. Local people are good at hunting.

  B. Forest coverage rate fell by 14.4 percent from 2001 to 2014.

  C. Rich people have a special interest in wild meat.

  D. Many Cambodians have realized the importance of wildlife protection.

  27. Where does this text probably come from?

  A. A news report. B. A science fiction.

  C. A medical journal. D. An agricultural magazine.

  C

The “swim-with-dolphins” tourist industry is becoming more popular every year. After all, it can cost a large amount of money to have this kind of holiday experience. So tour operators try to place eager swimmers as near as possible to the dolphins.

Research has shown that dolphins do not like it at all if the swimmers slip into the water directly on top of them or if humans are in their path of travel. However, if swimmers enter the water to one side of them, the dolphins do not avoid the swimmers to the same extent.

In all cases, the dolphins seem to have become more sensitive to the presence of the swimmers. For dolphins, swimming amongst or with humans is not necessarily a high priority. This study has shown that only 19% of any group of dolphins will participate in interaction. Young dolphins are the most likely to interact. It is believed that they see humans as “entertainment” and that the interaction is a new and unusual experience for them.

It is frequently asked whether “swim-with-dolphins” tourism should be discontinued. The advice is that dolphins should be given enough periods of time throughout the day when they are not exposed to tourism. Permitted interactions should not be too disturbing to the dolphins since there could be mothers and calves (幼崽)present in dolphin groups. There should also be educational campaigns about the creatures and what is likely to cause danger to them.

It is not easy to explain to someone that they cannot fulfill their lifelong dreams because the dolphins are resting, or that a mother dolphin and calf are in the area. But if we are to enjoy these remarkable animals and not just use them for our entertainment, then we must carefully monitor the “swim-with-dolphins” industry worldwide.

  28. What makes “swim-with-dolphins” tourism popular?

  A. The local government’s encouragement.

  B. The improvement of people’s living standard.

  C. The increasing number of tourists.

  D. The high profits of the industry.

  29. Why are young dolphins more likely to swim with humans?

  A. They do this out of curiosity. B. They like humans better.

  C. They are less sensitive. D. They are fearless.

  30. What should the “swim-with-dolphins” industry do according to Paragraph 4?

  A. Avoid interaction with young dolphins.

  B. Make people know the hidden threat to dolphins.

  C. Strictly limit the expansion of the industry.

  D. Expose dolphins to tourists only in the daytime.

  31. What can be inferred from the last sentence of the passage?

  A. The industry has been a hot topic worldwide.

  B. The industry aims to bring happiness to humans.

  C. The industry enables humans to swim with dolphins.

  D. The industry will harm dolphins without proper control.

  D

Scientists have found amounts of water molecules inside rocks and soil samples from Mars before. But an ancient meteorite(陨石) found recently contains 10 times more water and much more oxygen than any Martian meteorite ever before discovered.

What’s so wild about this wet discovery? It could mean that the Red Planet once had enough water to have liquid flowing on the planet’s surface.

It was once believed that if Mars ever had water at all, its water would have been small amounts of ice below the surface or existing in the soil only as hydrogen and oxygen---the elements that make up water. But recent discoveries have shown that Mars probably had a much wetter history than formerly thought.

The meteorite, nicknamed Black Beauty, was found in Africa’s Sahara Desert in 2011. Only about 110 meteorites from Mars have ever been found. Scientists believe most Martian meteorites arrived on our planet during one large asteroid crash(小行星碰撞)that sent rocks falling toward Earth long ago.

Black Beauty is about 2.1 billion years old. Its discovery is the first time scientists have been able to study such an ancient Martian rock. It’s also one of the first times scientists have been able to study a piece of the planet’s ancient surface.

The sample’s water molecules were sent out when scientists heated the meteorite to analyze it. Scientists think the meteorite’s hydrogen and oxygen molecules are so plentiful because water was flowing on Mars at the time this meteorite fell to Earth, or because these molecules were once sealed in large quantities in Mars’s crust.

Black Beauty might do more than just unlock secrets from the Red Planet’s past. These discoveries could also help scientists understand new data about Mars that’s being sent from the robotic rovers currently gathering information on the planet.

  32. People used to think that _______.

  A. there was little water on Mars B. Mars had a lot of flowing water

  C. a large quantity of ice was Mars D. Mars was much wetter than Earth

  33. What do we know about Black Beauty?

  A. It was discovered in Seattle in the USA.

  B. It is the biggest of 110 meteorites form Mars.

  C. It landed on Earth after an asteroid crash.

  D. It has a history of 2.1 million years.

  34. How did the scientists research Black Beauty?

  A. By cutting it into pieces. B. By dipping it into water.

  C. By burning it on a fire. D. By burying it into a desert.

  35. The passage is mainly about _________.

  A. a rock from the center of Mars. B. a major Martian meteorite discovery

  C. a new discovery on the Red Planet D. a number of meteorites from Red Planet

For college graduates, it is of vital importance to write application letters well. 36 It should state clearly the job you want, and should tell what you have done. It should be simple, human, personal and brief without leaving out any necessary facts.

In writing a letter of application, keep in mind that the things a possible employer is most likely to want to know about are your qualifications, your achievements and your aims. 37 If the first few sentences fail to win the reader’s attention, the rest of the letter may not be continued at all. Try to key your opening remarks to the needs or interests of the employer not to your own needs or desires. For example, instead of beginning with “ I saw your advertisement in today’s newspaper” you might say “ I have made a careful study of your advertising during the past six months” or I have made a survey in my neighborhood to find out how many housewives use your product and why they like it.”

38 Be clear about the kind of job for which you are now applying. College graduates looking for their first positions often ask what they can provide in a letter and what if employers want experience, which, naturally, no beginner has. 39

It is important to write a good strong closing for your letter. Make a specific request for an interview or give the possible employer something definite to do or expect. 40 That makes it easier for a possible employer to get in touch in you.

  A. Here are a few suggestions for you to prepare yourself better for your interview.

  B. An excellent idea is to enclose a stamped, self-addressed envelope with your letter.

  C. The answer is that everything you have ever done is experience.

  D. Don’t be afraid of being a new hand.

  E. Try to avoid writing in general.

  F. The purpose of a letter of application is to help you to “sell” yourself.

  G. The opening paragraph is perhaps the most important.

  书面表达

Last week, we had a heat discussion on whether people in cities can keep pets. 40% of the students hold the view that keeping pets is of benefit. Advantages can be seen as follows. First, old people who live alone can get some comfort form pets. In addition, getting along well with animals will make people’s life more interesting.

But every coin has two sides. 60% of the students object to the idea. One of the important disadvantages is that the public environment will be polluted by the walking dogs. To make matters worse, some pets may make noise, and even attack people.

As far as I’m concerned, laws should be made to guide people to keep pets in a proper way. Only in this way can we enjoy the fun of keeping pets without making troubles.
