Once a man needed a new pair shoes. This man was very good at math. He knew that in order to get shoes that fit very well, it would be necessary to measure his foot size correctly.
So, before he went to the market, he carefully measured his feet and drew a very detailed picture of his feet on a piece of paper. Then before leaving the house, like a good mathematician, he rechecked his picture.
It was a very long way from the man's home to the market. It was past mid-day when the man arrived at the market. When the man reached the shoe stall, he realized that he had forgotten to bring his paper. He turned around and walked all the way back home to get it.
It was nearly sunset when the man returned to the market. There he found the market was closing. The shoemaker had packed up all of his shoes. "Foolish man, "the shoemaker said to the man when he was asked to unpack his goods to make a sale. " Why did you not just try on the shoes? "
The man hung his head shamefully , saying,, "I guessed there was only one wav to solve my problem.I should have checked with others for another solution that might have worked as well better than my own. "

In his best-selling book. The Power Of Positive Thinking, Norman Vincent Peale wrote he believed ordinary people could become remarkable \vhen they started thinking they could do things, and when they believed in themselves.
If you look back on history, you'll see many examples of ordinary people who have achieved unusual results. Many of the best-known people, who have left their marks in the pages of history, failed many times on their climb up the ladder. These people had something in common. They had self-confidence as well as perseverance(毅力) in achieving their goals. Most successful people have a "can do" attitude. While failure is always possible, they face failure bravely and approach life with positive attitudes.
Above all, you must have a goal clearly in mind. It's like the parents asking their children what they want to when they grow up. You ,and only you, can decide where you want to go on your travel through life. But you can't sit on the top of a hill and think pleasant thoughts all day. You have to come down to the real world and set your goals. You must have a plan of action, and follow it. In the other words, ''plan your work and work your plan". While things come up to delay you at times, you mustn't give up your goals . You must be organized and have s system in place to meet your goals.
If you are fired with enthusiastic ideas and allow them to dominate your thoughts , you will find that new horizons (眼界) will open. As long as your enthusiasm lasts , so will new opportunities . Don't wait for the world to beat a path to your door-it won't. Remember, failure is just a stepping stone on your road to success, and if you exercise positive thinking , you '11 reach your goal.
12. All the remarkable people in history succeeded because they____.
A.served people heart and soul B. failed many times in their work
C. left their marks in the pages of history. D. believed in themselves and kept trying
13. To reach our goals , we are advised to ____
A.stay on the top of hill B.think positive thoughts all day
C. work in an orderly and organized way D. rely on the plan and act without delay
14. What does the underlined word "dominate" in the last paragraph mean?
A Send B. Control C. Pass D. Save.
15. What can be the best title of the passage?
A. The power of perseverance B. Failure is the mother of success
C. Positive thinking leads to success D. The importance of setting goals
