Scientists have long had it in their mind to make a robot lizard(蜥蜴).They began with finding out why a lizard can hang on a wall. They noticed the lizard’s toes were unique:they have suckers, which enable it to hang on walls. They, therefore, made a robot with suckers on its hands and feet. .
The robot could hang on the wall but fell off when climbing. So,they went on researching 6 years ago, scientists discovered that suckers only were not enough. It is the bristles on each foot that adds friction(摩擦)and static adsorption that makes a lizard move on the smooth wall easily without falling down.
Then scientists made great efforts to fix thick bristles to the robot’s hands and feet. However, the effect was not satisfactory. The robot still couldn’t attach itself firmly to the wall.
Scientists got puzzled:How on earth can the lizard climb on an extremely smooth wall or even on a ceiling without dropping off?
An accidental finding inspired them. One day a scientist happened to see a cat attack a lizard and bite off its tail. The lizard broke away from the cat’s teeth and threw itself on a wall to escape, only to fall off heavily on the ground. The scientist wondered:Is it the tail that plays an important role in its travelling on the wall?He caught some lizards for an experiment. The result proved his assumption:A tailless lizard has no trouble walking on an ordinary wall but can’t on a smooth one.A further study showed the lizard’s tail can prevent it falling over backward and, what’s more, that the tail acts as an additional leg while one of the lizard’s legs leaves the wall, which is always the case while it is walking on the wall.
Thus,Tailbot,a super tailed robot,is born.

Owning a pet makes us healthier and happier, but for many of us,long hours at work, tight budgets and small flats means it’s just not practical. But there’s good news for animal lovers;you can now cosy up with a cup of tea while spending time with furry friends,as the global movement of animal cafes has reached the UK.
The international phenomenon originated in Taipei, where the world’s first cat cafe,Cat Flower Garden, opened in 1998.Curious tourists soon discovered the pet paradise and brought the concept over to Japan. The first Japanese cat cafe opened in Osaka in 2005,and now there are said to be nearly 40 in Tokyo alone.
Japan has now gone far beyond the original concept, and some of the trendiest places to visit nowadays have owls, rabbits and goats hanging around.Tokyo’s Fukuro no Mise, which means the “Shop of Owls”,has full guest lists for up to two months.
Lady Dinah’s Cat Emporium was the first of its kind to open up in East London last year. The successful cat cafe takes bookings 50 days ahead and usually about 90% of them book out about 5-6 weeks in advance,Though the business has been a success, the owner Lauren Pears worries a little bit about the sudden rise of cat cafes everywhere.
“Cat cafes are still in their beginnings here and we’ve seen a very recent cautionary tale springing up in Singapore with the sudden burst of cat cafes in the city.Earlier this year, one of them was closed down after serious animal welfare issues resulted in the deaths of several cats.” She emphasizes that even though the job is fun and rewarding,it also comes with serious responsibility.

My daughter went to see The Wild One recently and she commented that Marlon Brando was wearing jeans so long ago.Of course he helped set the trend,so that got me thinking about the link between films and trends in fashion.Fashion and films have gone hand in hand for long. The Wild One is a good example:it appeared in 1954,starring Brando.Dressed in a black leather motorcycle jacket, leather cap and jeans,he created a look which is still considered “cool” today.Everyone from Madonna to middle-aged men is seen wearing the classic leather motorcycle jacket.
Another strong influence on fashion trends was Breakfast at Tiffany’s,starring Audrey Hepburn. She made famous the simple black dress that looks perfect at either a cocktail party or just standing around an expensive department store like Tiffany’s with a pastry and coffee in your hand,as Audrey Hepburn does in the film. She looks so elegant, wearing simple but beautiful dresses, big dark glasses and a string of pearls around her neck.Audrey Hepburn still influences women’s fashion with her “Tiffany’s look”.
In more modern times, the film star Uma Thurman created a major fashion trend when she appeared in the film Pulp Fiction, made in 1994.Her style was very simple. Her black trousers, crisp white shirt and hair style was copied by women in the world.
Influencing fashion trends can often be about timing. The movie Memoirs of a Geisha came just in time to start a trend in Japanese fashion. It started the Chinese actress Zhang Ziyi, who wore beautiful silk kimonos(和服),and it won an Oscar for Costume Design. Many travel companies picked up on the trend and ran “geisha trips” to Japan. The film has also led to a regained interest in kimonos. It is now quite common to see young Japanese women wearing kimonos not just on traditional occasions, but at various social events. The fashion is also beginning to spread to western countries.
32.What is the best title of the passage?

A.Zhang Ziyi. B.Audrey Hepburn.
