An individual human e~istence should be like a river—small at first, narrowly contained within its banks, and rushing passionately past boulders and over waterfalls.Gradually the river grows wider, the banks recede, the waters flow more quietly, and in the end, without any visible break, they become merged in the sea,and painlessly lose their individual being.
Youth means a temperamental predominance of courage over timidity,of the appetite for adventure over the love of ease. This often e~ists in a man of si~ty more than a boy of twenty.Nobody grows old merely by a number of years. We grow old by deserting our ideals.
Years may wrinkle the skin, but to give up enthusiasm wrinkles the soul.Worry,fear,self-distrust bows the heart and turns the spirit back to dust.
Thank you!

Everybody has his dream job. I also have my dream job. My dream is to work for foreign tourists as a tour guide.
Why do I want to be a tour guide? First of all, Im an outgoing girl, and I like doing some e~citing things. Maybe being a tour guide is the best choice. If I become a tour guide, I can travel all around China, and know more about our country. Then I will tell the foreign tourists about our colorful history. Second, I like making friends. If I work as a tour guide, I can make a lot of friends all over the world. This may be great.
Perhaps someday my foreign friends will ask me to visit their countries. I really like to go to their countries to know something about their culture. What’s more, I like singing.
Singing English songs is my favorite. I believe I will be popular with foreign tourists. Their trip will be e~cellent.
Now, I am still a middle school student. My job now is to work hard in school. Then I’ll go to university to learn something about being a tour guide. I’m sure I can.

Today is my two months and two days celebration of working in suntrans. This is my first job, and I am very glad tohave it, and to stand here sharing my feelings with all of you.
Today my topic is a little bit long, it is,the happy days of my dear little young fellows and me spent together in our companySuntrans. We had numerous happy days together, and every day is memorable. Itis so long that if I share every moment with you, this meeting may last three days or even longer. So in order to give us time to work, to eat, to go homeand to sleep, I will only share three most memorable moments we had together.
The first memorable moment for me was thecompany activity held in May by our human resources Department. We played games together and had a great time. That day was my 25th birthday, but that is not the most important reason whyI remember it so well. Firstly, I learned our company’s history, and felt thatit is very difficult to start a business, and thought that everyone in ourcompany is very hard working. Secondly, I joined Maple’s team that day, although we almost lost all of the competitions, everyone was so happy andfriendly and my team made me understood the meaning of the phrase– “team spirit”。I began to understand and like our company after that day’s activity.
The second memorable moment for me was the birthday party held in May. I never had such a birthday party before, what’s more, my birthday is the same month as our General Manager Lu, and I felt very honored and grateful. I received a lot of warm celebration words from all of you and a lovely birthday card. I was so moved that day and had the feeling that I am a part of this big family. When I blew off the candles, I made three wishes, firstly, make progress in English, secondly, make progress in Japanese,Thirdly, do my best to become a good translator in Suntrans. I hope my wisheswill come true in the future.
The third memorable mmoment for me was The Second E~perience E~changing Forum of Mining Investment 20~~. This is the first time I took part in such a big conference, and I was very e~cited and willing to do something for it. We did work very hard for this conference, and even asked the Dragon Boat Festival to contribute. This conference gave me a great worke~perience and taught me many things: for e~ample how to do advertising and marketing, and a great knowledge in mining industry. The most important is, our young fellows’team work is very brilliant, and I love our company more thanever after this conference.
These are the three most memorable moments for me that I spent with all of you in Suntrans, I hope that we can create moreand more in the future.
Thank you all, best wishes with love.

Ladies and Gentlemen: My topic is Honesty. As a correspondent of the Qingdao Morning News, I visited Dr. James Gilman, the President of the International Committee for Marco Polo Studies in England. In this picture, this is James, and this is me and we are looking at a dragon’s tooth. This is a true story. /chuzhong/chusan/ 65 years ago, James lived in Qingdao. Then he was only 5 years old. He often visited the Aquarium and was fascinated by a creature on display there, which he thought was a dragon. He was afraid of its sharp teeth and wanted one to keep as a treasure. In the late 1930s, when the Japanese occupied Qingdao, his family had to leave. On his last day in Qingdao, he ran to the Aquarium and pulled out one of the teeth from the dragon’s mouth. He kept the tooth for the ne~t 65 years, but the feeling of guilt at having stolen it was there in the background all through his life. It was always on his conscience, and the feeling intensified as he became older. Finally he decided to put right his childish error. In 2002, he visited Qingdao and returned it to the Aquarium with his sincere apologies. He received a warm welcome. When James visited Qingdao, I accompanied him all the time and reported on his visit. I was deeply touched by his honesty. It has taught me a lot. I think to err is human. The important thing is to have the courage to admit and correct one’s error. Honesty is a vital quality of human behaviour. So we should try to keep an honest mind in everything we say and do. I would like to say to all of my friends: Let’s be honest people of good moral character. Thank you.
can money buy happiness?
can money buy happiness? different people have different opinions. some think yes, while others hold the opposite.
it is true that with enough money one can buy all the things one wants, and live a life of comfort and security. however, it is equally true that lack of money causes great distress. it is a common view that "money is the root of all evil." the pursuit of money drives many people to cheat and steal. in some places there is nothing that cannot be bought with money, resulting in corrupt societies where everybody is miserable.
so, money does not necessarily mean happiness. it all depends on how it is used. if we make honest and sensible use of money, it can be a stepping-stone to happiness l although money cannot buy happiness, it can make happiness possible if it is employed sensibly.
smoking and health
today smoking is a widespread habit ali over the world. not only the old, the youth, but also middle school students have been engaged in smoking. many of them think that smoking is a smart symbol.
however, smoking is harmful to one’s ,health. it contributes a lot of lung cancer, from which many people have died in the past years. it can also cause many other diseases. in a word, if you smoke, you do have a much greater chance of losing your health. furthermore, scientific research shows that smoking is not only harmful to smokers themselves, but also a threat to public health, especially to women and children. therefore, many countries have made laws forbidding smokers to smoke m public places such as cinemas, stations, hospitals, and so on giveup smoking! if you don’t smoke, don’t start. give upsmoking for the sake of your health, for the sake of your family, and for the sake of the whole world.
development and the environment
it is undeniable that the worsening environment has become the biggest concern of the present-day world. land resources are dwindling because of water loss and soil erosion. waste gases poison the air we breathe. the rivers and lakes are polluted by waste dumped in them from factories. it is probably no e~aggeration to say that deterioration of the quality of the environment threatens the e~istence of mankind itself.
some people are of the opinion that the environmental problem is the price we have to pay for economic development. but i do not think that this argument is valid. after all, what is the point of economic growth if people’s lives are adversely alfected by worsening environmental pollution?
there is plenty of evidence to show that sustainable development can be achieved by balancing economic growth with protection of the environment. the key to achieving this is to make people aware of the seriousness of the problem. both governments and ordinary citizens should join hands to make this world a better place to live in, not only for ourselves, but also for future generations.
