　　Nowadays, international tourism is the biggest industry in the world. Unfortunately, international tourism creates tension rather than understanding between people from different cultures. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

　　International tourism is booming: millions of tourists go to other countries to explore the outside world. Tourism enhances the mutual understanding between the local people and tourists. Some people hold opposite opinions. They think that international tourism causes tension rather than promoting understanding between people from different cultures.

　　The people holding the latter view suppose that tourists are likely to offend the local people because of the lack of knowledge of the local customs, which differ from their own. Moreover, tourism inevitably harms the natural resources and the cultural legacy, which may lead to the resentment of the local people.

　　However, I can hardly assent to this idea: the above mentioned rarely happens. In my opinion, international tourism does encourage the understanding between people from different countries. For one thing, without going to see for themselves, people may never know what other countries are really like and thus can be misled by hearsay or films and TV programmes, which, more often than not, are one-sided. For instance, one of my American friends told me that most Americans had a strange bias against the Russian people until some young Americans traveled to Russia and saw with their own eyes that the Russians are human beings just like them. Another example is that, with the development of Chinese tourism, people outside China start to realize that Chinese men no longer have long braids and Chinese women’s feet are of normal size now. Secondly, having seen the fine scenery or experienced the rich culture of other countries, tourists will have the desire to develop a good relationship with the locals, which certainly contributes to the understanding between them.

Moreover, being easier and more convenient to travel among countries means that some criminals could flee to other countries after committing hideous crime. This will pose a threat to local security and community stability.

　　However, the downsides cannot overshadow its upsides. For starters, travelling around the world with more ease could expand individuals’ horizons and stimulate their love of life and they will be more productive at work in the future. Moreover, companies could visit foreign markets more conveniently than before and as a result, they could locate potential target market and sell goods there or buy materials from there if the price is competitively enough. If a company could flourish this way, employees will benefit and the society in which companies are operating will be more stable and harmonies. Last but not least, if more and more people are afforded opportunities to go to other countries, there will be less misunderstanding and more respect among countries. All these will contribute to a diverse but harmonious culture.

　　To sum up, despite the numerous drawbacks mentioned above, travelling to other countries with more convenience and ease is, by and larrge, a positive development.

Such as prostitution as well as alcoholism and substance abuse, just to satisfy the needs of these holidaymakers. And all of these render originally peaceful and pure countries to be a place with crime and instability.

　　In the second place, the international tourism also creates pollutions as well as cause damage to certain attractions. For one thing, the fossil fuel consumed during the journey and the pollutants left behind by the tourists possess grave threaten to the local environment and the ecosystem. A very salient example is the Great barrel reef in Australia. During the past few years, the visiting of countless boats, divers caused devastating damage to the coral live around the reef; the world renowned “Kuta” beach has also been polluted a lot by the tourists these years.

　　Finally, the quick money provides by the international tourism renders the local people become snobbish. 　　In conclusion, I strongly believe that the overall effect of the international tourist industry is bad. This condition would remain the same for a relatively long period of time and the government should take methods to curb the negative impacts that this would generate..

　　Air travel combined with early retirement and people with money to spend has meant that more and more people can travel the world. Some countries， especially those with famous historical sights and beautiful natural scenery try to attract this large market. While there are some problems that can be caused with all this travel， generally it is a positive thing.

　　Firstly， consider that all these tourists mean money that governments are eager to tap into. For many countries， tourism is a big part of GDP and without it their economies would suffer. Foreign tourists bring important dollars to the service industry and lots of small shops and vendors.

　　Secondly， by encouraging tourism governments are promoting their cities and countries. In my country， China， for example， increased tourism and hosting the Olympics has changed people’s perception of our country. At the same time， tourism allows local people to gain exposure to people from other countries， which is also a good thing.

　　Of course it’s not always a perfect picture. Not all tourists have a good attitude and manners. And in some cases they may even have a negative influence on the local population. But these situations are not so common， and embassies can create tough guidelines for getting a visa. This seems like a reasonable compromise.

　　To conclude， international travel is a great thing， but it is a privilege that should not be abused. Governments should encourage it， but also put in place measures to keep dangerous people away. This will result in a win-win situation for everyone.
