The article discusses the cause of death of birds on the new year’s night: the firework, while the lecture disputes this idea with the following proofs.
First, the writer in the reading passage holds that the time of firework and the death of the blackbird is coincident. However, the professor disagrees with it, because there are abundant of blackbirds in death in the rural areas which are distant from the urban areas.
In addition, in the material, the writer believes that no other evidence shows poisoned or disease. It is the impact from the firework that leads to the death of blackbirds. While in the lecture, the speaker deems that the idea in the passage does not hold the water. There may be other factors leading in the large scale of blackbirds’ death. It is possible that the wind or the air pressure blows them to the ground, when there is someone witnessing they crashed onto the ground, which leading their death.
Finally, it is depicted in the material that the red-winged blackbirds, which takes up most of the dead birds, have bad eye-sight. When they are shocked, they will crash each other, resulting in their death. On the contrary, the professor holds that this is not true. The main reason of death is not the poor eyesight. The reason why the proportion of dead blackbirds are large is that they make up the most part of the birds in local area, and although there are other factors rather than the firework, most of the birds dead are the blackbirds.

As our entire society has gradually come to realize the importance of higher education, more and more corporations and individuals have donated money to their alma maters and other universities. Regarding the use of this newly arrived funding, people seem to hold different opinions. I would strongly advocate that the university should arrange the construction of a new gym in the dormitory with the available funding, instead of the alternate plans for a room of quiet study or an entertainment place, in which students may watch films and play video games.
The reason I am against the construction of study rooms in the dormitory is that the function of such rooms is in conflict with that of the library. The library is a hub of knowledge which is exactly where a university student should be studying in, with its quiet environment, convenient access to books and articles as well as to the Internet, and an atmosphere created by fellow students in which one may enjoy the process of studying. If the school is to construct study rooms in the dormitory, I believe that on one hand, it would be almost impossible to maintain a beneficial order in such a room without any personnel supervision, and that on the other hand, it would encourage students to study in the environment of the dormitory, which is mainly for resting rather than studying. As a result, it would get harder for students to relax in their dormitories because their work and rest are no longer separated as they used to be.
Furthermore, I do not believe that the plan for entertainment would be an effective use of money. While I do favor for duty of the universities to provide amenities for students to enjoy a healthy and balanced life of both study and entertainment, it is clear that extra entertainment facilities in the dormitory are not only unnecessary but also potentially harmful in the long-run. Constructing an entertainment place can be seen as an encouragement of entertainment over studying and exercising, which is not a desirable effect.
Thus, there remains the best option: constructing a gym in the dormitory. Sports are critical for university students' personal development, and a healthy amount of exercise is necessary for students to succeed academically and socially. Opening a gym in the dormitory is a great signal from the school administration that the university encourages students to exercise. A fully equipped gym can prove to be not only an outlet for the stressful academic life but also a source of euphoria for those who enjoy exercising.
All in all, my suggestion to the university is to build exercise rooms in the dormitories to improve the quality of student life.

3. 标准写法：直接表明立场开门见山
题目：
Businesses are as likely as are governments to establish large bureaucracies, but bureaucracy is far more damaging to a business than it is to a government.

点评：
开门见山式的开头段写法其实是比较标准的一种写法，因为托福的独立写作从题目要求来说本质上就是一篇议论文，而且还是立论文，需要考生自己提出观点然后论述证明。那么在开头段就直接鲜明地亮出观点无疑是很合理的写法，对考官来说也能第一时间就看到你的观点，可以说是对读者比较友好的一种写法。比如上面的这个模板，就是第一句话直接写出了自己对题目的反对立场，并且最后给出了引出下面正式论述的引导句。这种开头段写法虽然不玩花样看似有点平淡甚至BORING，但对于不要求太多文笔更看重论述逻辑的议论文来说确实是比较高效的写法，也很适合新手考生进行模仿学习。
题目：
“As technologies and the demand for certain services change, many workers will lose their jobs. The responsibility for those people to adjust to such change should belong to the individual worker, not to government or to business.

这种写法就比较有创意了，当然大家在写中文作文时肯定也用过，就是开头就先引用个名人名言压一下场面，比如某某曾经说过。。。这样的写法。这种写法对考生的英语积累有一定要求，引用的谚语或者名言既要符合题目场景切题，考生也需要完整记住这句名言而不能自行修改甚至凭空捏造，无论是强行凑名言还是伪造的做法都只会让结果适得其反。当然这种写法能够一定程度上展现出考生的英语素养和积累，可以说是一种比较炫技的写法，大家如果在英语的言语名言方面有不错的积累可以考虑一下这种写法。
