Well, I’d like to talk about a small but embarrassing mistake I made a few days ago. Um, I have two friends who were born on the same day, so we usually celebrate their birthday together. One of them is a big foodie, and a huge fan of green tea flavored stuff. And the other girl is a bookworm. She always has her head in all kinds of novels. Anyway, I spent a whole afternoon shopping for their gifts. I bought a whole bag of snacks, like puddings, cupcakes, instant milk tea, and something like that, and of course all of them are green tea flavored. And as for the other gift, I remember the other day, she mentioned that the lamp on her nightstand stopped working, so I thought it would be a good idea to buy her a new one. After that, I went to the customer service center to have them wrapped, but unfortunately they only have one kind of gift wrap left. And the worst part was, the two boxes were about the same size and weight, so it’s a little difficult to tell these two gifts apart.And that actually explains why I made the mistake I mentioned earlier. I sent each gift to the wrong person, and I didn’t realize it until one of them came up to me the next day, asking me why on earth I would buy her a full box of snacks.
So that is the embarrassing mistake I’ve ever made so far, but I guess the service center and I should share the blame for this.

This topic reminds me of an embarrassing(使人尴尬的) mistake that took place in middle school. To say I’m not great with directions would be an understatement(保守的陈述). I was as lost as a
babe(婴儿) in the woods, but thankfully, my neighbor Paul, saved my bacon.
I went to the local botanical(植物学的) garden to see an exhibition that day. The exhibition was great, and I saw many precious species(物种) and learned a great deal. However, when I decided to go home, I found myself get lost in the vast garden and thick crowd. To make this mistake worse, I lost my map with no cellphone(大哥大) at the early age. I tried to ask for others’ help, but I could not remember which exit I should go to.
Luckily, my neighbor Paul who also went to the exhibition that day encountered(遭遇) me. It was a bit of a shock to run into my neighbor when I least expected to see him. I’m so grateful for his timely arrival, because I don’t know how I would have found my way without him. Actually he was ready to go home, too. So I followed him, and finally found the right direction.
After chatting with him along the way back home, as an older brother, he told me that remembering the place name and landmark(陆标) was the key to find the right direction. Maybe I was so frightened that I almost forgot every detail on my original route(路线). Several years have passed away, I am confident enough to say that I could never make such a stupid mistake again mainly because bringing along a 4G smart phone with GPS is much easier to get used to rather than carrying a traditional paper
map.

I had a project I was working on, and while I was in the middle of typing up my documentation(文件), my computer started acting weird(奇怪的). It froze for a while and so I rebooted(重启). After 10 minutes, the computer showed a blue screen saying that there were problems and recommended that I reboot the computer again. After another reboot, everything appeared to be ok. I continued my work and finished for the day. I spent two days on this assignment(人物) and when I went to retrieve my data the next day to double check my work, my computer wouldn't start up. A technician came and found that my hard drive malfunctioned. I lost all the data and lost two days of work.
I was disappointed and thought I would never trust a computer again, but there was a great lesson to be learned. I had a couple of warnings and I ignored them. From then on(从那时起), I practiced being someone who can anticipate(解决) problems. I now think of potential problems ahead of time and pay attention to details along the way. If I applied this sooner, I would have saved the data on another computer and I wouldn't have lost a couple days of work. But I can't say I regret making the mistake because it made me someone who can anticipate problems better."
