选题的意义：
首先，当代甘肃是近代甘肃社会发展的延续，研究民国时期甘肃、青海、宁夏3省分治之后(1929年 1949年)20年间的人口变化问题对以后带来的影响无疑是具有一定现实意义的。研究甘肃人口特别是对中国西部人口有着非常重要的作用。甘肃人口发展史表明，甘肃历史上很多次人口发展，都是在中央政府把甘肃作为全国战略重点地区的时候发生的，每一次这样的机会来临时，都是甘肃人口获得新发展的大好时机。
其次，1929年1月。三省分治之后甘肃的地域地理空间大为缩水，宁夏、青海两省省政府正式成立并分别各自统辖，基本上形成了今天甘肃地域空间的雏形，但是今属宁夏的固原、隆德、海原、泾原(化平)，西吉(时未设置)等5县地尚在甘肃省辖治范围之内，直至民国时期结束皆是如此。甘肃、青海、宁夏三省分治之后在特定时间、范围入手分析当时人口的状况，具有一定的新颖性和典型性。
论文主要内容
年 1949年这20年是甘肃人口发生变化最大的时期。从甘肃人口发展纵向历史看，这一时期甘肃人口的发展仍处于清代同治年间甘肃人口大幅度下降后的恢复进程之中，是清代光、宣时期甘肃人口恢复的继续。由于史料的限制，本论文着重讨论民国甘肃人口的总量发展和分布，并对涉及甘肃人口的诸多问题进行较为系统的分析与研究。
