　　Protection of the Environment Once man did not have to think about the protection of his environment. There were few people on the earth, and natural resources seemed to be unlimited. Today things are different. The world has become too crowded. We are using up our natural resources,and polluting our environment with dangerous chemicals. If we continue to do this, human life on earth will not survive. We realize that if too many fish are taken from the sea, there will soon be none left.

　　Yet,with modern fishing methods, more and more fish are caught.We know that if too many trees are cut down, forests will disappear. Yet, we continue to use powerful machines to cut down more and more trees. We see that if rivers are polluted with waste products, we will die. Yet, waste products are still put into rivers. We know that if the population continues to rise at the present rate, in a few years, there won’t be enough food.What can we do to solve these problems? If we eat more vegetables and less meat, there will be more food available. Land for crops feeds five times more people than land where animals are kept. Our natural resources will last longer if we learn to recycie them.

　　The world population will not rise so quickly if people use modern methods of birth control. Finally, if we educate people to think about the problems we shall have a better and cleaner planet in the future.

　　保护环境 过去，人们不必担心保护环境的问题。 因为那时地球上人口稀少，自然资源似乎取之不尽。 如今，一切都改变了。世界变得拥挤异常。我们正在耗尽我们的自然资源，有毒化学制品的使用也正污染着环境如果我们继续这样下去，地球上的生命将不复存在。 我们都知道如果从海里捕捉太多的鱼，海里就不会再有鱼了。但是，现代化的捕鱼技术使得捕鱼量越来越大。我们都知道如果砍伐太多的树木，森林就会消失。

　　但是，我们仍旧使用强大的机械砍伐越来越多的树木。我们都知道如果河水被废弃物污染的话，我们只有死路一条。但是废弃物仍然源源不断地进入河里 我们知道，人口继续照现在这个速度增长的话，不出几年，就会发生食物短缺。我们该如何解决这些问题呢? 如果我们多吃蔬菜，少吃肉类的话，我们就会有更多的食物。因为同样大小的土地如果种庄稼的话会比养殖动物多养活五倍多的人。 如果我们学会再利用的话，自然资源就能持续更久。

　　如果人们使用现代化的生育控制方法，世界人口就不会增长如此迅猛。 最后，如果我们能够教育人们都意识到这些问题的话，未来我们就会有一个更好、更洁净的星球.

　　China, our great motherland, is developing very fast. More and more techniques are being used into our daily life. Well, let's imagine what our future will be like in 50 years.

　　First, there will be more trees but less pollution. It's very important for us to protect our living environment. However, some people are destorying it only because they want to fullfill their selfifh purpose-to get more and more money. We are being told that it's wrong to bulid our happiness on the sufferings of our descendants. So, I think we should do something to change the present situation. And now our goverment is trying to solve this problem, and some relevent policies will come into force very soon.We could expect a bright future for our environment.

　　Second, much more advanced technologies will be used, which will provide us much more convinence. After 50 years, we will have our own robots help us with the housework, and the life will become easier and more comfortable. When you are free, you could fly to the moon for vacation or fly rockets to the moon. Everything is possible.

　　Last but not the least, I'd like to say that we could predict the future, and I believe with our continuous efforts, all of our dreams will come true one day. Do you agree with me? Let's take action now!

　　预见我们的未来 中国，我们伟大的祖国，正在快速地发展。越来越多的技术被应用于我们的日常生活。那么，让我们来想象一下50年以后的未来是什么样子的。

　　首先，这里会有更多的树木却更少污染。保护我们的生存环境很重要，但是，一些人为了实现一己私利，赚更多的钱而不断的破坏环境。我们不断地被告知，把我们的幸福建立在子孙后代的痛苦之上是错误的，所以我认为我们应该做些什么来改变现状。现在我们的政府正在试图解决这个问题，不久一些相关政策也将出台。我们可以期待我们的环境会有一个光明的未来。

　　第二，更多的先进技术将被应用，而这些经给我们提供很大方便。50年以后，我们会有自己的机器人来帮助我们做家务，生活将变得更简单更舒适。当你有空的时候，你可以去香港度假，或者飞去月球。什么事都是有可能的。

　　Someone said “we are reading the first verse of the first chapter of a book, whose pages are infinite”. I don’t know who wrote these words, but I’ve always liked them as a reminder that the future can be anything we want it to be. We are all in the position of the farmers. If we plant a good seed ,we reap a good harvest. If we plant nothing at all, we harvest nothing at all.

　　We are young. “How to spend the youth?” It is a meaningful question. To answer it, first I have to ask “what do you understand by the word youth?” Youth is not a time of life, it’s a state of mind. It’s not a matter of rosy cheeks, red lips or supple knees. It’s the matter of the will. It’s the freshneof the deep spring of life.

　　A poet said “To see a world in a grain of sand, and a heaven in a wild flower, hold infinity in the palm of your hand, and eternity in an hour. Several days ago, I had a chance to listen to a lecture. I learnt a lot there. I’d like to share it with all of you. Let’s show our right palms. We can see three lines that show how our love.career and life is. I have a short line of life.

　　What about yours? I wondered whether we could see our future in this way. Well, let’s make a fist. Where is our future?

　　Where is our love, career, and life? Tell me.Yeah, it is in our hands. It is held in ourselves.

　　We all want the future to be better than the past. But the future can go better itself. Don’t cry because it is over, smile because it happened. From the past, we’ve learnt that the life is tough, but we are tougher. We’ve learnt that we can’t choose how we feel, but we can choose what about it. Failure doesn’t mean you don’t have it, it does mean you should do it in a different way. Failure doesn’t mean you should give up, it does mean you must try harder.

　　As what I said at the beginning, “we are reading the first verse of the first chapter of a book, whose pages are infinite”. The past has gone. Nothing we do will change it. But the future is in front of us. Believe that what we give to the world, the world will give to us. And from today on, let’s be the owners of ourselves, and speak out “We are the world, we are the future.”
