上海外国语大学英语学院介绍
上海外国语大学英语学院走过了50年光辉历程,已发展成为上海外国语大学办学规模最大的二级学院。英语学院有本、硕、博层次分明、专业方向门类齐全的教学科研体系,其“英语语言文学”学科被列为国家级重点学科和上海市重点学科。

教学科研
英语学院作为英语学科教学科研的重要载体,致力培养“思想品格高尚、专业知识精深、外语技能熟练、具有国际视野、创新精神和社会责任感的高层次、通识型、国际化英语专业人才”。学院响应校党委提出的建设“研究教学型大学”的发展战略,坚持“以科研引导教学、以教学促进科研、科研教学并重、培养高层次社会主义合格建设者和可靠接班人”的方针不动摇。
英语学院本科生教育以语言、文学、翻译和文化为专业特色;硕、博研究生教育则围绕语言学、文学、翻译学、教学法、英语国家社会与文化、跨文化交际等专业(方向)开展丰富多彩的教学与研究工作,取得了累累硕果。《高级英语》被列为“国家级精品课程”,《高级英语》、《基础英语》和《英语口译》三门课被列为“上海市精品课程”。《新编英语教程》和《大中小学一条龙英语人才培养模式研究》均获得了“国家级教学成果奖”。
英语学院的教师和研究生除了在国内外核心刊物上发表了大量的学术论文外,还出版了一系列优秀教材和学术专著。一批年富力强的中年科研骨干已发表了许多具有相当影响的科研成果,而作为后起之秀的一大批青年教师在教授博导的带领下正崛起为学院的一支重要科研力量。
按照上海外国语大学建设“研究教学型”大学的定位,英语学院加大了对科研工作的投入,加强了科研中心的建设,相继成立了“英美文学研究中心”、英语教学测试研究中心”、“创新人才培养研究中心”、“中西比较文化研究中心”、“英语国家研究中心”等5个研究中心。
教学资源
英语学院教学科研条件优良。学院资料室藏书21000册,国内外学术期刊和报纸50余种,磁带等音像资料700多盘。此外,校图书馆还藏有与英语学科相关的图书约40万册,学术期刊和报纸近200种,英语磁带、光盘1000余种,英语原版电影800多部。英语学院教学楼内拥有已建及批准在的多媒体教室22间(共1704座)。学校可供英语专业学生使用的语言实验室16间(共684座)。
学生培养
学院始终坚持“兼容并蓄注重内涵”的教学理念,在切实培养学生扎实的英语基本功的基础上,重视完善学生的知识结构,努力拓展学生的国际视野,积极培养学生的批判思维能力,为学生开设了众多极具人文内涵的选修课程以提升他们的人文素养,由此形成英语学院独特浓厚的文化氛围。

Introduction
With a distinguished history of fifty years, the College of English Language and Literature (CELL) is now the largest college at Shanghai International Studies University (SISU). The College has established a complete educational system embracing BA, MA and Ph. D programs in an array of English-related disciplines among which English Language & Literature, most remarkably, is a key academic discipline at both the national and municipal levels.
The College offers two undergraduate programs –the English Language & Literature Program and the Sino-English Bilingual Translation Program, and two programs leading to Master’s and Doctorate degrees – English Language & Literature and Foreign Linguistics and Applied Linguistics, with the support of five research centers. Currently there are 1,097 undergraduates, 710 MA candidates and 155 Doctorate students attending CELL.
The College has developed a tradition of excellence in teaching and academic research. Over the years, CELL has developed a collegiate culture of “working in a practical manner, exploring with unremitting efforts, practicing innovation relentlessly, and striving to be first class.” While trying to keep its rigorous style of class teaching, CELL has taken courageous innovation initiatives, assuming leadership all along in the reform of English education in China. It has won numerous excellence awards granted by the State and the Shanghai Municipal Governments for its achievements in teaching and academic research.
Following the guidance of the CPC SISU Committee, and relying on all its faculty and staff, CELL acts on the scientific concept of development, implements without reserve the “4-3-2-1” development strategy adopted by the CPC SISU Committee, makes effective efforts to build a harmonious college, and carries out a series of programs such as Best Practices for Teachers, General Education, Innovative Talent Incubation, Course Reform for English Education, and Disciplinary Highland Construction. While the administrative and CPC leaderships of CELL try to cope with increasingly complex tasks and responsibilities, the College has assigned prominent roles to its CPC Branch Committees, Professors Committee, Young Teachers Committee, Teachers Union, and Student Affairs Working Group, and created a strong motivation among its front-line teachers, academic tutors and political tutors.
