Are you still believe in the traditional sports concept that "winner-takes-all" or "victory only belongs to the winners"? Of course, no!
Because of the nationwide sports system in our country, we always attach great importance to the glory of the most high-necked award platform, requiring athletes to win the game. I still remember that in 2008, Liu Xiang dropped out because of the serious injury in his Achilles's tendon, but he grit his teeth and stick to the end, bearing all the pain and pressure we may never know. From "medal only" to enjoy the charm and joy of the competitive sports, from requiring athletes to win the game to sincerely admire the noble-character and charming personality of them. This maybe one small step for 2016 Rio Olympic, but one giant leap for the Chinese national sport spirit. Who can say this is not the mistery of sport? who can say this is not the power of sport? Have you ever heard of Lin Dan or Li Zongwei ?I guess the answer is a big Yes.But do you know a badminton player from Brazil?His name is Yogg.Well,Today,let’s begin with his story.
With smelly streets,spider webs and dreadful security,it is the slum of Rio,a forgotten place.Fortunately,sports lightened it. A noticeable mark of this slum is the court for badminton.About 200 boys and girls come here to practice badminton on every training day.Yogg was just one of them.A couple of years ago,badminton was introduced to Yogg for the first time.Since then,Yogg was obsessed with badminton and he said: "Everytime when I play badminton,I feel like I were a badminton,which could fly out of the slum!" And yes,he did it!The sports carried him far away from guns,drugs and alcohol.He successfully participated in the badminton game of the Olympics this year.Sports saved him.
That’s the sports’ miracle to change an individual. But more than that,sports can change the world as well.
In the year 1971, Beijing received a special group of people.They are the Ping-pong players and journalists from America. Several
days later,Chinese ping-pong team paid a return visit,which created an international sensation .Since then,the ice was broken and this led to the normalization of Sino-US relations.American president Nixon of that time recalled: "Small the ping-pong,strong the power.Just a ball promotes the development between China and America"Not only are we two countries changed by sports,there’s more.British and German troops held a temporary ceasefire on Christmas Day during the World War two; each country on the planet gathers together to enjoy Olympics every four years.;even the two Korean delegations stepped into the stadium simultaneously because of sports.
I know sports can bring us a sight of our potential;I know sports can bring us minds unafraid to fight,even though the trail without victory;I know sports can bring the world the power to celebrate,the reason to unite and the courage to be better.And we know,we know the power of sports.
